Hemorrhoid of the Month
March 2006

Every Spring and Fall the "Core Aeration and Overseeding" business cranks up. They hit Gwinnett hard with signs all over the entire county. They hit Rockdale and Forsyth counties. And they aren't very nice.

In the words of one of our volunteers: "in November, someone plastered Peachtree Corners and other nearby areas. I removed them within an hour and called him. I didn't hear any profanity that I hadn't heard before, but never have I heard all of it at once, and without punctuation!"

UPDATE - June 2006
Jeff Chaskin owns this business and is apparently in the landscape business. Gwinnett County Police Officer Johns spoke with Mr. Chaskin on several occasions and each time was assured that he would be removing the signs and not putting any more in the right-of-way. When she and the other members of the Quality of Life Unit kept seeing his signs and new ones emerge, she went to his home and issued him 3 citations. His court date was for April 13 2006. About one week prior to the court date, she began to see the signs emerge again in the right-of-way and on abandoned property. She decided to issue Mr. Chaskin several more citations when he showed up for court on April 13. However, he failed to appear in court. After gaining a signed bench warrant for his arrest, she went to his home and arrested him for the outstanding bench warrant. She also issued 24 more citations for sign violations. He bonded out after about 8 hours ($2200). This is his photo from the docket book at gwinnettcountysheriff.com:

He did appear in court on May 11, 2006 but asked for a continuance, which was granted. Many of the Truckloadbunch were in attendance, to serve as witnesess if necessary. We were again in attendance Jun 8, 2006 for his rescheduled trial but, alas, he was a no-show. Turns out he got a lawyer and made a plea for a $1500 fine. So if ANYONE sees any more of his droppings, let us know and Mr. Chaskin will really be in hot water.

Incidently, our October 2005 Hemorrhoid, Chris Tavormina, was in court recently to receive a fine for $1000.

UPDATE - November 2006: Mr. Chaskin apparently left Gwinnett for what he though was virgin territory: COBB COUNTY. However, we have friends there too who have been busy grabbing his signs firing up Code Enforcement. May we suggest some place a little further away next time? France? Or perhaps China?
